We regularly say no to paying clients. Not because the business is bad or the budget is small. Because the ask is “show me results in 30 days.” We do not take engagements shorter than 90 days, we lose real revenue because of that rule, and we keep the rule anyway. Here is the reasoning, in full, so you can judge it yourself.
To be clear about what we are not saying: nothing happens in month one. Plenty happens: it is the most work-dense month of the engagement. What does not happen in thirty days is proof. And proof is the thing you are actually paying for.
Plenty of agencies will happily promise results in a month. Look closely at what gets delivered: impressions, clicks, reach, “engagement,” maybe a pile of cheap unqualified leads. These are vanity metrics, numbers that can be manufactured on demand precisely because they are not connected to revenue. Any competent media buyer can make a dashboard look great in three weeks. Making a phone ring with people who actually buy is a different job on a different timeline.
The 30-day promise is not a service standard. It is a sales tactic aimed at owners who have been burned before and want risk removed. The irony is that it produces the next burn: month one ends, the dashboard glows, the bank account does not, and the owner concludes, again, that marketing does not work.
The economics explain why the promise persists. An agency built on 30-day expectations plans for churn: sign fast, show activity fast, replace the client when the results question finally arrives. An agency built on longer engagements has the opposite incentive. It only survives if clients stay, and clients only stay for revenue. When you hear a timeline promise, you are really hearing a business model.
Our rule is simple: month one builds the system, months two and three validate it.
Could we skip the build and just launch ads on day three? Yes, and occasionally a client’s foundation is genuinely ready and month one moves fast. But promising results before the system exists means betting your money on our luck. We prefer betting on the sequence. The full process is public on our how we work page.
Here is what we think you should demand from any agency, including us. By the end of month one: a working system you own — tracking that shows where every lead comes from, pages built to convert, campaigns ready to spend. By the end of month three: real numbers tied to money (cost per qualified lead, what converts, what it costs to acquire a customer) and an honest verdict on what to scale and what to kill. If an agency cannot tell you which month is for building and which is for proving, they are planning to show you a dashboard instead of a business result.
And the honest flip side: if you genuinely cannot commit to a quarter (cash flow is tight, or you need jobs next week to make payroll), do not hire us, and be careful hiring anyone. A 30-day engagement mostly buys you an invoice. Start smaller instead: our free audit takes three minutes, scores your marketing across 25 checkpoints, and does not even ask for an email.
See where your marketing actually stands before you commit a dollar to anyone.
