INDUSTRIES / STARTING OUT

Marketing for businesses that are just starting out

At launch every dollar matters and every agency wants a retainer you can't justify yet. What you actually need is the right order: the smallest set of assets that makes the first client possible, built so nothing has to be redone later.

HOW MARKETING ACTUALLY WORKS IN STARTING OUT

Minimum viable presence

A one-page site that converts, a Google Business Profile, and one channel done properly beat five channels done thinly.

Spend where your first buyers already look

We pick the single acquisition channel your market actually uses and put the whole budget behind it.

Build so it scales later

Tracking, brand basics and CRM from day one, so growth doesn't mean starting over.

PROOF

We've launched brands from zero: a Calgary colourist got a website and Google Business Profile built from scratch and now runs on them; a photo-experience studio and a podcast got their first sites the same way. Small starts, done in the right order.

WHAT YOU ACTUALLY NEED FIRST

Not everything. The right things, in order.

New businesses burn money buying marketing in the wrong sequence: a $10k site before an offer, ads before a way to answer leads. Here is the honest minimum, in the order it pays off.

1. An offer someone already paid for

Before any marketing: one service, one price, at least a few real customers. Marketing amplifies; it can't invent demand for an unvalidated offer.

2. A brand minimum, not a brand book

Name, logo, colors, a one-page site with one action. Enough to look intentional. The full identity comes when revenue justifies it.

3. Google Business Profile + reviews

Free, local, and the first thing people check. Set up properly, it works while you sleep, and your first five reviews matter more than any ad.

4. One channel, done consistently

Not five platforms badly: one channel where your buyers actually are, run every week. Add the second only after the first one pays.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS FOR NEW BUSINESSES

Asked by almost every founder

How much should a new business spend on marketing?

Less than you fear, in a smarter order. The foundation (brand minimum, one page, Google Business Profile) is a one-time build. Ongoing spend starts when one channel is proven, not before. A free growth review mapping your specific order usually saves months of scattered spending.

Should I run ads from day one?

Usually no. Ads amplify a working funnel; on a new business they mostly reveal what's missing, at full price. Prove the offer with organic and referrals first, then pour fuel.

Do you even take pre-revenue clients?

Sometimes. We've built brands from zero: Bowl & Whisk started as a name and an idea. But we'll tell you honestly on the review call if marketing money is premature for your stage, and what to do instead.
